Imagine my surprise when I hear the above ringtone (that for which I have set to my sister's number) while sitting at Logan airport realizing that it was coming in about 45 minutes in to what should have been my sister's flight to JFK where we would have our joyous reunion FINALLY. In the time it took the two verses of the song I had a sneaking suspicion I would not be thrilled with the news I was about to get upon answering the call, but never in a MILLION years expect to hear my sister (who has been sending itineraries, books and all kinds of stuff to prepare ME for the past three months) say "I missed my flight". No gentle intro in to this announcement, no sugarcoating. Just an "I missed my flight" followed promptly by "you just keep your flights as planned, they're trying to re-book me to MIlan". I got hung up on the word "trying", but I was not in full panic mode yet. No that came when she said "you just go get the car and meet me in Milan". What could possibly go wrong with that plan, I think as I'm quickly flashing back to the time when we were kids and she lost me on an elevator in San Francisco (I rode the freaking thing up and down for two hours before someone realized I was lost!) 1) I speak ZERO Italian unless "ciao and vino" count 2) I point that out to my sister who then gives me the phrases I need to get the car to which I point out how helpful that was with the exception that people to whom I would be speaking these phrases will likely be responding in Italian!!!! She sees the issue...
As it turns out her next call is telling me that miraculously she gets a flight via Amsterdam and she will only be 2.5 hrs behind me. I was impressed! We decided it best for me to stay in the airport and meet her at her gate!
After the immediate crisis phase I decided to call Jenn (my niece and Laura's eldest daughter) who was my sister's ride to the airport. I knew I'd get the full 411 from her as to how in the H-E-double hockey sticks this happened. Two contributing factors 1) Macaroni Grill and their "Wine on the honor system" and 2) well need I really point that out?
So dear readers The Worcester Sisters are already Trippin albeit solo for the first leg. That said we have already laughed as much as we would were we together. See we can make a party even 3,000 miles apart.
God willing the next post will be that we have at last found one another in Milan, we'll have a car AND a gps, and off to the beginning of our Italian adventure.
Until next time--
Mollie
