Today has been another beautiful day in terms of weather! Not as hot as yesterday, but warm enough! We did a walking tour of Volterra this morning and then set out to follow the Chianti region winery trail. To see all of the grand old villa's is so interesting. Some have been working vineyards for centuries and others turned into them more recently. It is fun to see the signs of many of the Chianti's that I enjoy at home along side the road marking the vineyards.
Today we decided to venture off without the benefit of atlas or mapquest. While fun in theory, we did need to stop and buy a map and as luck would have it the map is much more useful to us (or i should say Mollie, as she has yet to drive) except for a little bit. She is a very good navigator! I am feeling pretty good on the roads, although I do think I will turn it over to Mollie Andreti when we get to Rome!
We stopped in Greve for lunch which is where Jennifer, Stacey and I stayed in during our last trip. Food was great - service, not so much. The fun thing is that we are sharing our meals, so I don't think we have spent more than $30 for a dinner yet. Tonight we are going to clean up and go out for a nice dinner and wine at one of the restaurants around the corner from our hotel.
We are most likely going to leave Volterra a day early to add one more day on the coast due to the heat. We will keep you posted on that. Tomorrow we go to Firenze to see The David and one of the most wonderful art galleries, The Uffizi. We will spend a long day there to see as much of Florence as we can.
Ciao

Isnt' that where the "castle" was? You should really show Mollie are amazing living quarters while we were there. Mom, don't go buying a new house there. And please, when you land in the city from Under the Tuscan Sun, please remember you have daughters & dogs back in Portland :) I love you guys and I'm so glad you are having a good time.
ReplyDeleteIsn't Volterra where all the vampires live in "Twilight?" Be careful out there....Seriously, isn't it fun to see stuff you've heard or read about?
